Dental Tips After the Appointment | After SedationAfter any appointment requiring an anxiety-reducing medication a child should be carefully monitored. Eating can resume if the child is hungry. Sleepiness is normal after dental treatment.
After fillingsIf a local anesthetic has been given for treatment, a pain killer such as Children's Tylenol can be given to ease post treatment sensitivity. Sometimes a filling may be a little high, which won't be noticed until the "freezing" has worn off. If the tooth that was worked on is still sore a few days after treatment it may require a slight adjustment. Please call the office.
After tooth removalIt is not uncommon for the area where the tooth has been removed to bleed a little throughout the day. Try to avoid the extraction area with a brush for the first 24 hours and avoid hard foods. Drinking through a straw may also cause prolonged bleeding due to the suction action when drinking.
After "Freezing"It's not uncommon for the "freezing" to last for a few hours after treatment. During this time care should be taken to avoid eating as cheeks may be chewed on and hurt after the "freezing" comes out. Hot food and drinks can also cause damage and should be avoided until normal feeling occurs. A "pins and needles" feeling will be associated with the "freezing" wearing out, like when your leg falls asleep. |
